Our History

Tipmaster was established in 1968 by our current Chairman, Ian Terry. The roots of the company go a lot further back, it was in 1886 when Mr Perkins began manufacturing cycles from his front room at his house in Crownfield Road, Leyton, London. The Crownfield Cycle was very popular in its time & the company progressed into making motorbikes and moving into larger premisses in Leyton, E10.
In 1914, like many other engineering businesses it became involved in the manufacture of munitions. After this the company remained in Cycle & motor cycle manufacturing taking on motor repairs and branching out into building vehicle bodies into the 1950’s under the name of Perkins Garages Ltd when, My late Grandfather Harry Terry joined in 1952.
Mr Perkins had no family so in 1960 Harry Terry purchased the business and by the mid 60’ the company was manufacturing body work for larger tippers along with motor repairs and a Ford retail dealership, all in Leyton.
It was 1967 that the business moved to our present location at Rigg Approach, Leyton, a purpose built factory with land for storage of vehicles & in 1968 Tipmaster was established, our first small tipper was a Ford Transit with front end tipping gear and an electro hydraulic power pack that we manufactured inhouse. The usefulness of the Tipmaster soon caught on and the little tipper became popular in many areas from house building to local authority & refuse collection, From there we grew & have remained.
Now, Tipmaster, under the Parent Company, Crownfield Holdings, owned by the Terry family manufacture a bespoke range of tippers & bodywork, working closely with the chassis manufacturers producing body work for specialist applications. At our London facility we employ 30 people, with the group employing a workforce of over 100 people over 3 locations with two franchised vehicle dealership, waste management company, precision engineering company, a rapid prototyping & model making company and a classic car engine rebuilding company.
